Barbara Harwell Pierce July 2, 1934 - December 6, 2022 Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Barbara Harwell Pierce passed away at her home in Hattiesburg, MS on Tuesday evening, December 6, 2022. She is rejoicing in heaven as she meets her heavenly Father and reunites with her husband, Max Pierce. Barbara Pierce was born on July 2, 1934 in Clarke County to Jim and Mary Bounds Harwell. She graduated high school in Quitman, MS. Barbara was a lifeguard in the summer at Lake Bounds. In addition, Barbara was in the first graduating cosmetology class at Pearl River Community College in 1961. She married Max Pierce on October 8, 1966, and they were blessed with 56 years of marriage. They resided in Glendale, MS and had their son, Alton Raymond Pierce in 1969. Barbara was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her son, Alton. They later moved to Hattiesburg, MS. Barbara was a member of Glendale Baptist Church and a member of The United Daughter’s of Confederacy. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Jim and Mary Harwell, two sisters Pearl Harwell Cook, and Mary Harwell, four brothers, James Harwell, Bobby Harwell, Harold Harwell and Martin Harwell, Wanda and Gary Pierce, H.L. Pierce and her late husband, Max Pierce. She is survived by her son, Alton Pierce (Julie) Hattiesburg, MS. Her grandchildren, Skylan Pierce (Starkville, MS) and Colton Pierce (Hattiesburg, MS). In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law Pauline Harwell of Shubuta, MS, her sister-in-law Roma Faye Pierce (Hattiesburg, MS), Jerry and Joyce Pierce, brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Hattiesburg, MS) and Billy and Mildred Pierce, brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Kingwood, TX) along with many nieces and nephews. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She enjoyed helping and working along side Max Pierce at Toyota of Hattiesburg. She provided cosmetology services as a ministry to her senior church group. She enjoyed traveling and attending Toyota Award Trips to Europe, Japan and Hawaii. They travelled the world. She loved gardening and birdwatching. She enjoyed taking photography classes at USM for a hobby. In addition, she loved camping and going to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach with her family. She loved Dr. Pepper and collecting things. The family would like to say thank you to Forrest General Home Hospice Caregivers and our caregivers. Services will be held at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 553 Bethel Church Road, Seminary, MS on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 4:00 PM officiated by Reverend Wayne Woolwine and music by Toris Smith.
