Michael Wayne Roberts

April 1, 1955 - April 2, 2022

Michael (Mike) Wayne Roberts, a carpenter and life-long resident of Purvis, MS, died peacefully on April 2, 2022, at the age of 67, following complications from a stroke. Mike is survived by his loving mother, Alma Lorene Poole of Denham Springs, LA; his siblings John Simmons, Mark Simmons, Barbara Poole Carlton, Doug Poole (wife, Mary) and Robert (Bob) Poole; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Ivan McNelly, and Misty and Ryan Armstrong; his six grandchildren, Aubry Penton, Izzy Penton, Lindsey McNelly, Michael Armstrong, Ian McNelly, and Alexis Armstrong. He is preceded in death by his step-father David Poole, his brothers, James (Jim) Henry Simmons, Huey Simmons, Roy Coleman Simmons, Jesse Simmons, Larry and Jerry Simmons, Paul Simmons, David (Dave) Poole, and Henry Oscar (Ott) Simmons Jr. ; and his grandparents Oscar and Jewel Simmons, who helped raise him into the wonderful man he became. Mike was born in Metairie, LA on April 1, 1955, to Lorene Simmons. He moved to Purvis, MS at a young age where he attended school and resided for the remainder of his life. He worked in construction from an early age and eventually learned to build homes with his hands and from his heart. He married Sarah Cooper and on November 19, 1979, and March 1, 1981, respectively, he welcomed his two beautiful daughters into the world, Jennifer and Misty, who were the most important part of his life. Mike was a devoted father and as selfless as they come. He gave everything he had to those he cared about, and anyone who was in need. He had the biggest heart and was not afraid to show this amazing and rare feature from such a rugged man. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for those he loved. He enjoyed spending time with his family and drinking coffee with his best friend Cecil Walley, who also preceded him in death. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on April 5th at the First Pentecostal Church of Purvis, with visitation from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
