Bruce Jay DeYoung

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bruce Jay DeYoung of Petal on October 10,2021. Born on March 3, 1952, he passed suddenly while visiting his son James in Sumrall. Bruce always had a joke and a smile for anyone he met. He served his country honorably in Vietnam and took great pride in that fact. He criss-crossed the country hundreds of times during his 35+ year tenure as a truck driver. It was during this time that he collected his many jokes from around the country. He loved fishing, animals, and his online community members. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bruce is survive by his son James DeYoung (Cacee), daughter Shelly Lankford (Kurt), step-son Jacob Novak (Shaundra), step-son Matt Novak, grandsons Abel and Landon Lankford, step grandchildren Dylan Durgans, Keyana Durgans, and Aiden Wilson, best friend Phil Parker, and beloved dog Skibbles. He is preceded in death by his wife Naquisa DeYoung, mother Betty J Edge, and step daughter Rachel Wilson. Bruce will be honored and remembered at a private gathering on Sunday, October 24, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southern Pines Animal Shelter in Hattiesburg or the Coastal Conservation Association of Mississippi. He will be deeply missed.
